A serpent encircles
Coiled around the world
Scales the black of void
The red of dreaming days
Imprisoned at the dawn of time
Punished for an unknown crime
Venom forced to flow
Dissolving its own flesh
Ouroboros, Suga'ar, Jormungandr, Hesaya
Its true name unimportant, the mystery is this:
Was it put there to ensnare, to swallow sun, to bring despair,
Or to be boundary from what lies behind in wait?
Infinite, coiling, writhing, boiling,
Lusting, scheming, feeding, needing,
Dissolve, digest, regrow, suggest,
To us that we should seek to escape our home
Venom flowing, starlight glowing,
Poison is in everything, we should not seek a cure,
Daylight swallowed, night to follow
The moon will shed its shadow as a serpent sheds its skin
The cold light shines, but does not warm
The serpent writhes, devoid of form
Protector or jailer
Rebirth or swift death
Why are we afraid to share in the cycle we've been left?
That which hides behind the stars
Wants nothing but our silence
No rebirth waits in the void,
We are not quintessence
The cold light shines, but does not warm
The serpent writhes, devoid of form
Our entropic demise
(Our wasting lives)
Shall not be marked by ceremony
(Need no praise)
Starfires consuming the skies
(Heaven's lights don't burn for us)
Or fading out one by one
The salt of our bones shall return
(The salt of our bones)
To (is) the earth
While the serpent writhes
(Forever more)
And the moon sheds its shadow
Alturúk is a solo recording project by Canadian musician Zac Baccardax. It combines his loves of heavy music, sword-and-sorcery fantasy, and working alone in a dark basement for weeks at a time.
An incredible album, especially for a first-time release. The clean vocals are majestic, the blackened vocals scream and shriek for revenge, and combination fuels a compelling story. Alturúk
Dan Swano has written too many good albums to list. The atmospheres he creates are always thick and unusual, with a sense of high fantasy that absorbs the listener and doesn't let them escape. Alturúk
